Shanghai expands medical-account payment for optional vaccines

A rule effective September 15 allows eligible insured people to use accumulated employee medical-account balances for specified vaccination costs.

Shanghai’s notice published September 14 covers vaccines outside the national immunization programme and their administration fees at designated local institutions. From September 15, eligible local basic-insurance participants may pay using prior-year employee medical-account balances, including permitted family sharing.

This is a payment-policy change, not a new entitlement for overseas visitors. International residents should confirm enrollment and account eligibility; short-stay travelers should request self-pay prices. Ask the clinic about appointment availability and identity documents, and leave vaccine suitability and timing to a licensed clinician.
